At Work for Warriors Mississippi, we are deeply honored to support and recognize the military families who stand strong behind our service members. April is a time to shine a light on two incredibly important groups within our military community: the children of our military families and the surviving spouses who carry on the legacy of their fallen loved ones.
Month of the Military Child: Recognizing Their Strength and Sacrifice
Every April, we celebrate the Month of the Military Child, a time to recognize and honor the resilience, strength, and sacrifices made by children in military families. These young heroes face unique challenges that most peers will never experience. They move frequently, change schools often, and say more goodbyes than most kids their age. Yet, they show extraordinary courage and adaptability.
At Work for Warriors MS, we understand this group’s vital role in maintaining our military families’ morale and well-being. Whether their parent is serving stateside or deployed halfway across the world, military kids hold down the home front with grace far beyond their years.
Our Support for Military Youth (Ages 16+)
- Part-Time & Summer Employment: We connect teens with job opportunities, including internships and seasonal positions.
- Resume & Interview Prep: We offer guidance on resume building and interview techniques to help young job seekers gain confidence.
April is a time to recognize and celebrate these young individuals. Wearing purple symbolizes all military branches, in solidarity with military children. Let’s celebrate their courage and recognize the unique contributions they make to our nation.
Gold Star Spouses Day: Honoring Their Legacy and Strength
On April 5th, we observe Gold Star Spouses Day, honoring the surviving spouses of our fallen service members. These individuals have endured the unimaginable loss of their loved one in service to our country, yet they continue to stand tall, honoring their family’s legacy with grace, strength, dignity, and perseverance.
Gold Star Spouses are a vital part of the military community. Many are advocates, volunteers, and leaders, working tirelessly to support other military families and preserve the memory of their loved ones. Their sacrifices and strength remind us that freedom is never free—and that behind every fallen hero is a family forever changed.
